The Biggest Loser

(Note: This is NOT an official NBC website)

O.K., so I'm a fan of the show and all-too-fond of spouting off my opinions and observations about it so I figured maybe I'd throw up a page on it so that other people could be bored with my opinions and observations.

 Week 12

It's the Final Four!

Michelle is the last Black Team member - so she gets Jillian as a personal trainer this week.

Bob challenges Vicky a lot this week.  He knows she's a gameplayer, he's just trying to figure out if she's going to gain all the weight back once the game is over.

Early in the show Allison gives the contestants a box containing a bunch of their old fat clothes.  They find the clothes they did the interview in at the beginning and other clothes from their past.  They try them on, marvelling at how big the clothes are on them now and how far they've come.  Then they decide to burn them - so they take the box outside and throw the clothes into the firepit.  While the clothes are burning they all pledge to each other to never gain the weight back.  I hope they live up to it.

Later the trainers take the contestants into the video room to show them mini-movies about their own journey through the last 11 weeks.  Tears flow, people can't believe how big they were, everyone is somewhat inspired.  As is the tradition for the Final Four show on Biggest Loser.

Challenge

For this week's challenge the contestants go to a race track where they have to run carrying the weight they've lost.  They get there and Allison is leaning up against a stock car (notice the prominent Subway sticker?) and she tells them that they are going to have to run around the track (which Heba says is her biggest nightmare) but that there's a catch...they will start the race wearing weight belts containing the exact amount of weight they've lost since they got here.

The winner will get Biggest Loser meals (carefully designed) for them and their family delivered to their home every day from the time they leave the ranch until the finale.  AND they'll get $10,000.

Along the way are "pit stops" these tires arranged by the side of the track.  As they reach each pit stop (which appear to be about every 1/4 of a lap) they take off one weight belt representing the weight they lost that week.  There are 11 stops - one for each week of the show.  Naturally they'll get lighter and lighter as they go until for the last 1/4 they'll be running totally unencumbered.

The race starts and Ed takes off immediately, with Michelle in hot pursuit.  Heba is power walking and falling back quickly.  Vicky, who has been complaining in her blog of a foot injury, is hobbling badly and clearly out of the race from the very start.

Allison tries to inject some drama and the concept is pretty neat, but that's pretty much how the race goes. Nobody ever passes anybody, everybody gradually gets lighter, and those Michelle gave a good chase it is Ed who holds out and wins.

Big advantage to Ed and Heba - with the meals being delivered until the finale that makes it a lot easier for them on the food and gives them that much more time to work out.

Weigh In

Contestant Weght Lost
Michelle 9
Vicky 6
Heba 7
Ed +2

Michelle, going last, drops another HUGE number.  She is clearly the fan favorite and is putting up huge numbers.

Yes, you read that right, Ed GAINED 2 pounds.  Bob immediately says that he suspects game play.  Ed possibly drank a bunch of water or something beforehand.  However...Blue team didn't know that America was going to be voting for the final contestant.  The only scenario that I can think of where that makes sense is if they WANTED Ed sent home figuring that Heba would have a better shot to win the big prize ($250,000) and Ed would have a good shot to win the At Home prize ($100,000).

The twist is, though, that America is going to get to vote for the third finalist.  Heba made her case for America to vote to send her to the finals.  Ed made his case for America to send Heba to the finals. Yes, you read that right...Ed and Heba BOTH asked America to vote for her.

VOTE HERE

I have to admit...I voted to send Ed to the finals.  I dunno - I just like him better than Heba although Heba has softened and redeemed herself in my eyes quite a bit in the last few weeks.  In the early going I thought Heba was sort of bossy and manipulative.  Lately she seems to have stepped back and let Vicky be the show's villain.

Update:  I've heard buzz that Ed took sick before the weigh-in on that last show and had to go to the hospital.  His weight GAIN might actually have been the result of being pumped full of IV fluids before the weigh-in?  This is NOT official news, mind you, just a buzz I'm hearing in the BL community and could be an explanation for his weigh-in results.

Observation: I know it's a game and there's competition but Michelle drops a NINE and not a single Blue team member, not even Bob, seems at all happy for her.  Yeah, I get it, competition.  But you know...5%+ weight loss in one week after dropping BIG numbers the last two weeks.  How about a little applause?  No?  Maybe a smile and a nod?  Instead the Blue team looked like Michelle had just run over their dog in the driveway.
